Obituary of John Frank Hallman, Jr.
John Frank Hallman, Jr., known to friends as "Opa," passed away on January 4, 2019, at the age of 86 years.
Born in Columbia, SC on August 29, 1932, he was the son of the late John Frank, Sr. and Louellen Poole Hallman. John served in the USAF from 1953- 1973 and served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. He attended the University of Maryland, while in the USAF and graduated with a degree in business and a degree in Hospitality Management from Troy State University.
John served in numerous organizations, including Order of the Amaranth, Inc. Grand Court, Scottish York Rite, Knights Mason, and the Masonic Boyleston 123 AFM Lodge. He helped with the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation Fundraising. He served on the church council and several committees at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gerda Hallman; children, Gerdi (Robert) Lake, Frank (Rose) Hallman and Louellen Hudson; grandchildren, Blake (Marnie) Hudson, Zachary Hudson, Robert (Erin) Lake, Carrie Lake (Nick) Petrus, Mac Lake and Ella Hallman; great grands, Carolina Hudson, Julia Hudson and Olivia Hudson
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 13th at the Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with the Rev. David Coffman officiating. Graveside will follow in Westside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Robert Lake, III, Blake Hudson, Zachery Hudson, Robert Lake, IV, Mac Lake and Nick Petrus.

The family would like to especially thank the Tri-County Hospice Newberry staff, Dr. Michael Bernardo, and the nurses at Lexington County Hospital.
