Obituary of Linda E. Bennett

Linda E. Bennett, 71, lost her brave battle with lung cancer on Tuesday, Jan. 8. A native of Georgia, Linda traveled the world as a military spouse to Jonathan C. Bennett Sr., who preceded her in death. Linda and Jon lived in Alaska for many years before settling in Columbia, where they raised their children, Jennifer and Jonathan.

Linda worked as a Merchandise Team Manager at Kmart for over 28 years, where she was beloved by her colleagues and customers. She was passionate about gardening and had a green thumb that, combined with her talent for decorating, resulted in her ability to make a home look like a magazine inside and out.

Linda was incredibly loving and generous, and her red hair fit her fiery personality. She was famous amongst friends and family for her delicious cooking and her holiday candy, especially her peanut-butter balls.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy, and they will miss her tremendously.

Linda was preceded in death by brothers Bobby and Mike Savage. She is survived by: sister Sandra Wilson; special and devoted friend Larry McLauren; son Jonathan Bennett, Jr. (Darlene) and their daughters Kristi and Brandi; daughter Jennifer LoPresti (Christopher) and their children Sara Dietrich and Anthony LoPresti; and great grandchildren Braxton Sulier and Rayleigh Garcia.

A graveside service celebrating Linda’s life will be held Friday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at Linda’s home at 3105 Downes Grove Road, Columbia, SC following the service. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting with arrangements.
