David passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2018. He was born June 29, 1925, in Springfield, Missouri, the second son of Francis Alysious Mangan and Myrtle Almira Williams Mangan.

He was accepted into the U.S. Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet program while a senior at Springfield High School, and was called to active duty immediately upon graduating in 1943. During WWII he served in the Air Corps as a lieutenant and aerial navigator, flying in B-17 and B-29 bombers. His bomber crew was detached to Savannah, Georgia, to pick up a new B-17 bomber. They were to depart Savannah on Easter morning May, 1945 and fly to England. At the last moment orders were cancelled. While in Savannah, Dave met his future bride Mary Winnifred Morris. Immediately after his discharge in early 1946, Dave and Winnie were married and Dave enrolled at Clemson College. He graduated from Clemson in the class of '49 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dave was granted a license to Practice Mechanical Engineering in 1954 in the state of South Carolina. Dave was a former member of the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce in both Greenville and Columbia, and of the Richland Kiwanis Club in Columbia.

He was a member of the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers (SCSPE) in Greenville, Spartanburg and Columbia, serving in all chapter offices. He served as SCSPE Columbia chapter president in 1963, state president of SCSPE in 1974, and president of the South Carolina Society of Heating & Refrigeration Engineers (ASHRAE) in 1974. He served as associate president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of S.C. in 1986. Upon retirement he received Life Membership in both SCSPE and ASHRAE.

Dave worked for Reamer Industries in Columbia for 11 years and for The Climatic Corporation for 30 years. He retired from Climatic in 1990 after serving as corporate VP and sales manager for Carrier sales and chief engineer.

Dave joined Shandon Baptist Church in 1962 where he served as a deacon and usher for many years. At Shandon Baptist he was a member of the Disciples Sunday School Class and served at the Monday morning prayer breakfast and was on the church homebound and prayer committees.

For the past three years Dave was a resident of the Columbia Presbyterian Community. He is survived by his wife Winnie of 72 years, two daughters, Suzette Mangan-Bryson (Thomas J. Jr.) and Stephanie Mangan, and his sister Martha Mangan of Santa Cruz, CA. He was predeceased by both parents and two brothers Francis Edward and Donald Vincent.

Dave was a loving husband and father, an avid lifelong reader, crossword puzzler and golfer. He was a member of Wildwood, Woodlands and Fort Jackson golf clubs in Columbia, Santee Golf Group, S.C. Seniors golf group and Ye Olde Codgers of Columbia Construction.

A special note of appreciation to the staff at the Cassels Center of the Columbia Presbyterian Community, in particular Leah Bond, Mary Diffenderfer, and his guardian angel Bonita Bennett.
