Obituary of James E. Owens

“Together again.  Two hearts that once beat as one, are no longer beating; but what does it matter, we’re together again. Our love has no end; always and forever, we’re together again.”

On November 30, 2018, James E. Owens (Jim) joined his beloved wife, Nancy, in death.

Jim was born March 26, 1936 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Mary S. Petgriac and Chester J. Owens.

He is survived by his sister Virginia Ann Guice (Sonny) of Bridgeport, West Virginia.

Jim entered the Army in 1954 and retired in 1975 as First Sergeant. He served in Japan, Korea, Germany, and Vietnam. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky and then at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. While stationed at Fort Knox, he met and married his wife Nancy of nearly 50 years.

Although legally blind, Jim loved to perform magic tricks, play the slots, cooking, and his Carolina Gamecocks, but his first love was his wife and family.

Together they had three children; James E. Owens, Jr. (Irene), Melissa O. Butler (Charl), and Mindy O. Cassell (Eric). They had six grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Owens, Claire and Emma Butler, and Andrew Cassell (Melissa) and Olivia C. McCartney (Chris) and one great grandchild, Benjamin Cassell who were his pride and joy.

His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. First Sergeant Owens will take up residence at Fiddler’s Green.

A private graveside service for his family will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park at three o’clock on Sunday, December 2, 2018.

Jim requests “That the service is short and nothing fancy; just put him to rest beside his Nancy. So they will be forever, and always, together again.
