Obituary of Jesse Frank Mauldin Bannister, Jr.

Columbia—Jesse Frank Mauldin Bannister Jr, 85, died Sunday November 18, 2018. He was born January 23, 1933 in Columbia, SC to Jesse Frank Mauldin Bannister Sr. and Celestine Timmerman Bannister. He married Avon Tindal, of Pelion, SC in 1955 and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage together.

 

After graduating from Pelion High School in 1951 he served in the Navy. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina in 1958 and a Masters of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from USC in 1982. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga, Tennessee for a few years before beginning his career with SCE&G that expanded over 30 years. One of his proudest accomplishments was overseeing the start-up of the Wateree Power Plant.

 

He was a member of Park Street Baptist Church, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school, serving as deacon and serving on numerous committees, and leading a bible study at Wardlaw. He loved studying the bible, Sudoku puzzles, woodworking, photography, and cooking. He was always inquisitive and ready to learn.

 

He is survived by his son, Keith Bannister of Columbia; daughter, Karen Bannister Jackson and husband Greg of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter-in-law, Lou Bannister; grandchildren, Amanda Brett (Adam) of Louisville, GA; Joseph Caleb Bannister (Ann) of Columbia; McKenzie Jackson, and Rachel Jackson; great-grandchildren, Latham Brett, Tate Brett, and Aubree Bannister; and a sister, Becky Williams of Summerville, SC.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and sisters, Eleanor Cochran, Margaret Smith, Kay Pahl; and a brother, Newton Bannister.

 

Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Park Street Baptist Church located at 2204 Park Street, Columbia SC. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Pelion, SC. Family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 on Tuesday, November 20th at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
