Obituary of Ernest Melton Shull

Ernest Melton Shull, of Columbia, South Carolina, born on June 20, 1928 in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Jessie Shull and the late Frank Shull, passed away at age 90 on October 8, 2018 in Columbia. Ernest graduated from Arden (Lions) Elementary and University High School. Ernest proudly served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948 on the battleship Missouri.  He was the owner of E.M. Shull Company and traveled throughout the state serving his customers. He loved being an amateur carpenter and hated to discard old boards that could be used for a new project. He was a devoted fan of the Gamecocks.

Ernest was married to Dorothy Shull for a loving 68 years. Even in his last days, he remembered asking for permission from her father for the marriage.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Julian Shull. Ernest is survived by his sons, Ronald Shull and Michael Shull; son-in-law, Alvaro Llanos; and daughter, Teresa (Ernie) Boyers.

The family would like to thank Still Hopes Rehab Center, Amedisys Hospice Care and Grace Caregivers for their compassionate care.

Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Thompson Funeral Home chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia 29209, (803) 776-1092.  Friends and family members are welcome to attend the service.
