Obituary of Wilma Ruth Burnett McGrady

A graveside service for Wilma Ruth Burnett McGrady, 82 will be on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC with Pastor Butch Blackwell officiating.

Mrs. McGrady was the widow of Harold H. McGrady Sr. They were married nearly 52 years. Mrs. McGrady formerly of Columbia, SC retired from the City of Columbia Police Department in the 1980's. She worked briefly with the City of Columbia Fire Department in the late 1960's.

Mrs. McGrady passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018 with her family by her side. Born in Columbia, SC on April 3, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Shumpert T and Willie Mae Renew Burnett.

She loved gardening, baking, and reading a good book. She previously was a member of Eau Claire Baptist Church and Eastwood Baptist Church, both in Columbia.

She is survived by her children, Melinda (Glen) Starnes of Salley, SC, Sheryl (Rob) Groves of Lugoff, SC and Harold H. McGrady Jr. of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Ryan McGrady, Kathleen (Brandon) Smith, Allison Groves, Cole McGrady, Corey McGrady and Shelly (DJ) Branham; great- grandchildren, Alyssa, Caroline, Kaegan, Patrick, Savannah and Kennedy.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Encompass Hospice for the compassionate care given to their mother and a "special thanks" to Mike, Robin, Barbara, Jordan and Chaplain Matthew.
