Obituary of Peggy Ann Turner

Lexington – Peggy Ann Turner, 85, of Lexington, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, August 12, 2018. She was born in Florence to the late Henry Talbert and Marie Louise Turner. She was also pre-deceased by her only brother and sister-in-law, Hampton Talbert and Sarah Areheart Turner.

Peggy retired from the Lexington County School District Office after 44 years of service.  She was one of the founding members of Congaree Baptist Church where she faithfully served and attended for more than 48 years. Peggy was also an active member of the American Legion Post 90 Women’s Auxiliary until her health declined, and then she became a permanent resident of Carolina Gardens in Lexington in January, 2013.

Peggy didn’t have children, but she affectionately became known as “Mama Peggy” to all of her church family, friends and even the staff and other residents of Carolina Gardens. She was always known as “Aunt Peggy” to her step-nieces and nephews. She especially loved the attention that her caregiver, Shelby, and Lolly her step-nieces, gave her. Peggy also adored “Winnie”, the dachshund, and “Gidget”, the miniature poodle. They really enjoyed visiting her because they knew they would get treats, and have plenty of toys to play with!

Visitation for “Mama Peggy” will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Congaree Baptist Church, 101 Pine Ridge Drive, West Columbia, SC 29172. Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM. Burial services will be held in Southland Memorial Gardens. Memorials, in Aunt Peggy’s honor, may be made to Congaree Baptist Church. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family.

Peggy’s family would like to personally thank the staff of Carolina Gardens in Lexington, National Health Care in Lexington and Pruitt Health Hospice for the kindness, care and attention shown to Aunt Peggy throughout her illnesses. Being a “Southern Lady”, she was always treated with dignity and respect.
