Obituary of Sam Preston Fant
CW4 Sam P. Fant, 86, of West Columbia passed away on August 10, 2018 at the Veteran’s Affairs, Warrior’s Walk Hospice, Columbia SC. Born in Union, SC, he was son of Sam Preston Fant and Minnie Bryant. He had been a local resident of West Columbia since retiring from the military. He served for 30 years and 8 months in three different branches; Marines, Airforce and Army. He loved to fly, and as a young boy all he wanted to do was be a pilot for the United States of America. Serving his country was his passion. He was a family man who enjoyed being surrounded by loved ones.
Surviving are daughters, Amanda (Craig) Fant-Farison, Samantha Daniel Fant and Maggie Nichole Fant, all of Columbia SC; sons, Col. Michael Allen (Barbara) Fant of Virginia and Geronny Sam (Cynthia M.) Fant of West Columbia SC; seven grandchildren, Jason Fant, Angela Fant, Michael Fant, Jr., Jacquelyn Fant, Jacob Fant, Lacy Reece and Carly Brown; two great grandchildren, Charlotte Fant and Natalie Fant; sister-in law, Wilma Adams and her husband, Gene Adams of Union; sister-in-law, Lou Fant of Union SC; and brother-in-law, David Spencer and his wife, Kaye of Inman.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters, Frank, George, James, William, Claude, Iley, Joe, Vera, Lois and Helen.
Funeral service for CW4 Sam will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in the chapel at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. The family will receive one hour prior to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Full Military Honors.
