Obituary of Reverend Kenneth Chavis

Rev. Kenneth Chavis, Sr 89, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away August 7, 2018. He was born on March 1, 1929 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Bennie Lee and Laura Shirey Chavis.  Rev. Chavis was predeceased by his wives, Blanche Elizabeth Chavis and Barbara Joyce Chavis; and three children, David Chavis, Jerry Chavis and Brenda Sturkie.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Davis Chavis; Sons, Kenneth Chavis, Jr. (Mary Ann), Larry Chavis (Cheryl), Stephen Chavis and Michael Hobson; daughters, Alice Horne (Dale), Tracy Chavis (Norma), Jennifer Jones (Jason) and Rachel Hobson.  There are twenty grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also surviving.

Rev. Chavis has pastored two churches; Lexington P H and Eastover P H.  He also served as a missionary to Haiti establishing the Chavis Lighthouse Mission Church and school.  His mission work also included India, Pakistan, Japan, Jamaica and South Korea.  Kenneth was a very loving husband and father.  His preaching and teaching about Jesus touched many throughout his life.

A service for Rev. Chavis will be held on Saturday, August 11 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Westside Holiness Church, 500 Augusta Street, West Columbia, SC. with burial to follow in Olympia Cemetery, Columbia, SC.  Visitation will be held at the Church on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family.
