Obituary of Judith S. Houck

Graveside services for Judith S. Houck, 83, of Lexington, will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, 515 Wesley Grove Road, Cordova, SC 29039. Pastor Lois Helms will officiate.  The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Judith Houck passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018. Born in Gilbert, she was a daughter of the late Colie “Buck” Taylor and Faye Long Taylor. Judith was a secretary for the Merrill-Lynch company and later for the University of South Carolina. She took some time off to rear her two sons, and then returned to the workforce, where she retired from the LabCorp Company after 20 years of service. Anyone that knew Judith knew of her uncanny ability to predict the scores for her beloved USC Gamecock football team of “88-0”.  In addition to Gamecock football, Judith enjoyed tennis, softball and watching westerns on TV. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Judith is survived by her sons, Tim Smith of Columbia, Ben Smith (Judy) of  John’s Island, SC; 2 grandchildren, Brandon and Jasmine Smith; brothers, Gerald Taylor of Gilbert, Gwinnie Taylor (Nancy) of Gilbert; sisters, Linda McCormick (Jesse) of Gilbert and Nancy Reynolds (Butch) of Lexington. In addition to her parents, Judith was predeceased by her loving husband of 15 years, Elbert Houck; one brother, Danny Taylor.

The family would like to thank the following caretakers and special people, whose loving care made all the difference: Kayla Frye, Hope Pryor Busher, Tasha West, Rena Frick, Sonji “Mama” Perry, as well as the staff at Heartland of Columbia, for their tender care, especially: Ella,  Ladell, Cindy, Erica, Carol, Sharon, Arnold,  Atiyah.
