Obituary of Marjorie Pennington Broome

Marjorie Pennington “Penny” Broome, 88, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2018 in Columbia, SC. Penny was born on December 24, 1929 to the late Dale Maloney Pennington and Lois Cox Pennington in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was the widow of Douglas Augustus Broome.

Widowed early, Penny never forgot the love of her life. She enjoyed a full life centered around her strong faith, her friends, traveling and caring for others. She delighted in her family. Penny is survived by three daughters, Sandy Cromer (Mike), Susan Adams and Debbie Smith. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Carolyn Rutherford (Paul), Bryan Cromer (Maggie), Chris Adams (Noelle), Allison Cromer (Reid), Doug White (fiancé, Kaitlin Lochlear) and Kristen Smith; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Becky Broome White.

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida. Penny worked as a site manager for over 20 years. She was an active, dedicated member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 2817 Millwood Ave., Columbia, SC 29205.
