Obituary of Retha Shumpert Scurry

Retha Lee Scurry, 89, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.  She was born October 28, 1928 in West Columbia to the late Clarence and Ethel Shumpert.

Retha was a graduate of Brookland Cayce High School and Columbia Bible College. She was a lifetime member of Dunn's Chapel Church where she taught Sunday School and was the Bible Quiz Team Coach.  She was retired from Capitol City Manufacturing Co.

In addition to her parents, Retha was predeceased by her husband, Robert P. Scurry and a brother, Raymond Shumpert.  She is survived by her children: Frank P. Scurry (Jenny), Joyce Browder (Wade), and Robert L. Scurry (Rachel). Grandchildren: Jonathan Scurry (Taylor), David Scurry, Jolene B. Gillis (Chris), Chad Browder, Travis Scurry, Jared Scurry (Meredith) and Justin Scurry (Jenna).  She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Hailey, Hunter, Harper and Holland Scurry, Bradley and Macy Gillis, Bryson and Hunter Scurry, Monroe Scurry and Maddox, Molly-Kate, and Annabelle Scurry.  A sister, Mildred Hobbs (Plamon) also survives.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Dunn's Chapel Church, 281 Chapel Road, West Columbia with burial in the Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family wishes to thank Opus Nursing Facility and Agape Hospice for the loving care they provided.
