Obituary of Charlton Richard Clark

Charlton Richard Clark, known as Dick Clark, died June 20th at his home. Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on June 30th at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is assisting the family.

Dick was born July 3, 1918 in Lake City, South Carolina. Dick was a World War II veteran who retired as a CM/SGT with 30 years’ service in the United States Air Force. After his retirement from the service, he relocated to Columbia where he worked many years as a tax accountant.

Dick met his wife, the late Muriel Kelly Clark, in Ireland during World War II. They were married for sixty-eight years before her passing in 2013.

Dick was an active member of the community belonging to the American Legion and as Treasurer for the Torch Club and church. He was also a fan of the Sunday Jazz group and local theater performances. He was a lover of big band music and got on the dance floor even in his nineties, for the shag or jitterbug.

Dick was much loved by his daughter, Margaret McCauley; his son-in-law, Thomas McCauley; his grandsons, Sean and Ryan McCauley; granddaughter-in-law, Sylvia; and great grandchildren, Alex and Maxwell McCauley. He was also loved by his son, John Clark and his daughters, Kimberly, Shannelle, Michelle Debroux and Meredith Braswell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church in Dicks Memory, 7239 Patterson Rd, Columbia, SC 29209.
