Obituary of William "Bill" Leonard Turbyfill

William "Bill" Leonard Turbyfill, 98, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away June 6, 2018 at Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Hospital (Warriors Walk Unit) in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on November 10, 1919 in Whitmire, South Carolina to the late Arthur and Lottie  (Parr) Turbyfill. Bill served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Alabama and the USS Randolph during World War II. He was a devout Christian and devoted member of Whaley Street United Methodist Church. Bill served in the church as a Sunday school teacher and the president of his men's Sunday school class and WSUMC Men's Club.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling to the mountains. Bill loved wood working and making beautiful art pieces. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

William is survived by 1 daughter, Ima (Gerald) Addy; 1 granddaughter, Betsy (Patrick) Lundy; 1 great-granddaughter, Emma Lundy and a second great-granddaughter Bill was excited about arriving soon; 1 sister, Fern Sightler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Annie Mai Barnett Turbyfill; 1 brother and 3 sisters.

The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park for a visitation on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be at Whaley Street United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Whaley Street United Methodist Church, 517 Whaley St, Columbia, SC 29201.
