Hans Peter Killius, 83, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, peacefully at his home in Columbia, SC. He was born in Berlin Germany, July 1, 1939. He was a son of the late Kurt Erich and Berta Muller Killius. He was a loving father, husband and Opa who cared deeply for his family.
Hans Peter was a paratrooper in the German Army from January 1961 to March 1962 before coming to the United States in 1963. He then pursued a career in automobile mechanics where he worked at Gibbes Volkswagen for 25 plus years before pursuing other jobs at Love Chevrolet, Newsome Chevrolet, and AAFES Exchange Service Center before retiring. He was well known as the “Volkswagen Man."
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Letha Sharpe Killius; daughter, Kimberly Killius Horvath (Pat) of Columbia; sons, Peter Killius (Ginny) of Ridgeway, and Steven Killius (Melissa) of Camden; nephew, Thorsten Killius (Jonnie) of West Columbia; granddaughters, Haley Killius, Elizabeth Killius, Gracie Killius, and Jewelie Killius; grandsons, Jakob Horvath, and Landen Killius; and one brother, Hartmut Killius (Ursula) of Germany. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Renate and Gudrum of Germany; and a brother, Volker D. Killius of Columbia. Hans Peter Killius will be missed but never forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. The family will greet friends and family following the memorial service.
