Carol Ann Bange Warren, 80, treasured wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (“Gigi”, Grandma Grandma), and friend, passed away due to Neuroendocrine Cancer, at her home in Columbia, South Carolina on Friday, October 1, 2021, surrounded by her children and holding her husband’s hands. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, she was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Bange White and her fathers whom she loved equally, Albert Bange and Harry White, her beloved brothers Albert “Skippy” Bange, John Bange and Vincent Bange.
Carol is survived by her sister and best friend, Patricia (Arthur) Cappella and her brother, Paul (Judy) Bange; her four children: Mary Warren Kayse, Teresa (Odell) Edwards, Lisa (David) Henry, Katherine (Todd) Gardner; her 7 grandchildren: Jacob (Natascha) Spahr, Carolynn (Jason) Craig, Allison Spahr, Luke Edwards, Cooper Schroeder, Sage Gardner, Sterling Gardner; her 5 great grandchildren: Oliver Spahr, Benjamin Spahr, Anson Craig, Carter Craig, and CJ Craig; her sisters-in-law Linda Warren and Nancy (Brett) Bishop and brother-in-law Eugene Warren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other much loved relatives and friends including her dear friend Tammy Frankenfield and the rest of the “Bunco Babes.”
Carol spent much of her youth helping to raise her siblings. She attained her high school GED at the age of 50 and continued with college courses. She was an avid learner and reader. Carol devoted her life to helping others. She supported the food pantry and the Society of St. Vincent De Paul of the Catholic church. She was known by her children as the most amazing Prayer Warrior and no doubt all who knew her benefitted from her commitment to prayer and faith in its answers.
She loved the outdoors and the beauty of all God’s creation. She imparted this love on her family sharing the fruits of gardening, the peace of hiking and the joy of walks in the creek. Summer vacations in the mountains of Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina with her family, sister, brother-in-law, nieces, and nephew were some of the most treasured times of her life. She climbed up waterfalls, experienced total darkness in the depth of Rice Cave and prayed the family down many a mountain path. But above all these things is the enduring love she shares with her husband of 61 years, Lewis Warren.
Their legacy of love which began in high school has known no bounds and death will not separate them. Carol loved Lew completely and their example of faithful love touched more people than we can ever know.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3512 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205, Saturday, October 9th at 10am. Masks are required at the funeral service.
