WEST COLUMBIA - Reba G. Belk, 82, of West Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully May 10, 2020, at her home with family at her side.
Born July 30, 1937 in Mayesville, Georgia, she was the daughter of Buddie Greenway and Nell Dow Hayes. Reba was married to Charles H. Belk, Sr., who predeceased her in 1989. Reba and Charles owned and operated Belk Soc Service, full service gas station from the 60’s–early 70’s. Owned and operated Belk Detective Agency from the 60’s – early 90’s. Reba did this while holding a full time job as an accountant with Jeff Hunt Machinery Company. She then moved on to the Department of Corrections as a buyer and retired with them in the early 2000’s. Reba graduated from T.L. Hanna High school in Anderson, S.C. Reba enjoyed going line dancing with her friends, and she had every color boot you could imagine! Things she loved in life: Charlie Jr., coffee, cigarettes, and word search puzzles, not always in that order.
Surviving are her son, Charles H. Belk, Jr. (Chris); daughters, Diane B. Toole and Cindy Belk all of West Columbia; siblings, Steve Greenway (Sandra) and Jimmy Lou Spearman of Anderson; grandchildren, Chip, Candace, Amanda, Erin, Jennifer, Morgan and Michelle; great grandchildren, Chloe, Brynlee, Conner, Preston, Olivia, Emmalynn and Andrew (who will be here in 3 weeks); and her dog, Taco, who is 17 years old.
A visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. A private family service will be held. The burial is to take place at the Celestial Memorial Gardens. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the Belk family.
