Obituary of Sharon Ann Torbett

Sharon Ann Kordack Torbett, age 78, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 5, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on May 26, 1945 to Michael J. and Betty Smith Kordack. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and the Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for 32 years with the last 16 years as a nurse/office manager for Dr. William Mercer.

 

Before moving to South Carolina in 1998, she was involved in community, church, and her childrens’ school/athletic organizations. She was a member of the Ohio Valley School of Nursing Alumni Association. She was an active member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Cathedral, and a volunteer teacher for several years. In South Carolina, she was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lexington, where she sang in the adult choir, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and taught in the Religious Education Program.

 

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Anthony (Tony), niece Heather, beloved dog Barkley, and her “sister” cousin Sandy Wojcik. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lionel, daughter Kristin (Derek) Holt, their children Kristofer (Laurel) Wellman and Alec Holt, son Shawn (Becky) Torbett and their children Gracen and Jake, and son Jason (Lori) and their children Sydney and Brooks. She is also survived by her brother Michael (Sonia) Kordack, brother-in-law Bruce (Darla) Torbett, and sister-in-law Patty Torbett. She also leaves behind 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous friends in Wheeling and Lexington.

 

Sharon’s life was spent serving others. She always helped anyone in need. Nursing was her passion, as well as her time babysitting her grandchildren. She taught by example that God and family are the most important things in life.

 

Friends will be received at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, SC 29072 at 5:00 Wednesday May 8, 2024, with a celebration of life service to follow at 6 pm. In addition, friends will be received in Wheeling at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 St, Wheeling, WV Friday May 10, 2024 for visitation from 1 - 3 pm and 6 - 8 pm, followed by a burial service Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery.
