Obituary of Deraldine Faye Cooper

Deraldine Faye Cooper (86) of West Columbia, SC passed peacefully in her home on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. She was reunited with her eternal sweetheart, the late Richard D. Cooper, Sr., never to be separated again. Mrs. Cooper was born in Alcolou, SC on January 10, 1932, to the late Edward Authur McCabe and Annie Victoria Thames. She was one of twelve children, survived by her sisters, Erma Prescott, Merceline Richbourg and Betty Roof. She was a woman of quiet strength. She carried herself with beauty and grace, as any proper Southern Belle would. She devoted her life to the nurturing and care of her family. She married Richard on 8 August 1954. Their marriage was blessed with eight children, three passing in early pregnancy, raising five and assisted in the care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She gave her life in service to her God, her husband, and family. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and as she progressed through life, her testimony of the gospel increased tenfold. If she was not cooking a big Sunday meal for her family, she could often be found, fixin' a plate for a sick neighbor or friend. We will miss her famous fried chicken and McCabe slaw, almost as much as we will miss her. The secret to every recipe was the love she baked into each meal. Her children, young and old, could often be found gathered round the dinner table, telling stories and laughing joyfully. She expressed her love for others freely and often. Survivors include her children, Richard Cooper Jr, Kenneth Cooper (Shelly Wilt), Arthur Cooper, Cynthia (Ronald Shuford), and Scott Cooper. Her eleven grandchildren, Ashley Howe, Amy Stalvey, Jacob Cooper, Caroline Cooper, Amber Kiser, Aubrey Cooper, Adam Cooper, Alissa Cooper, Aiden Cooper and Aaron Shuford, Angela Shuford and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018, from 6-8pm, at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia located on 200 State Street. Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located on 1330 Whipporwill Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169, at 9:30 am on Monday, February 19, 2018, with burial to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
