Obituary of John Wesley Cagle

John Wesley Cagle, Sr., passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the age of 80. He was born in Marlboro County, SC on May 17, 1937 to John Wesley Cagle and Mary Jane Biles. He was a veteran of the US Army. John retired from the State of South Carolina after 30 years of service as an orderly at the state hospital. He then became an instructor at Midlands Technical College in the Automotive Department, later becoming the Director of his department. John enjoyed his retirement by attending dirt track racing events, fishing, hunting, modifying and perfecting inventions, and playing the guitar and bass. John is survived by his sons, William Cagle (Kelly) and Michael Cagle (Sandy); brother, Ray Cagle (Bertie); sister, Evelyn (Chuck) Lambert; sister-in-law, Margie Cagle; grandchildren, Jennifer, Lindsey, Whitney Cagle, Lauren Cagle, Shelby Chau (Phong), Tyler and Kendall Cagle, Tiffany Cagle, Stephanie Eller (Robert); and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Cagle; son, John Cagle, Jr.; brother, Cecil Cagle; daughter-in-law, Diane Cagle; grandson, John Cagle III; and second wife, Linda Temple Cagle. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park will host the visitation Friday, February 23, 2018, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. located at 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Serenity Gardens beginning at 2:00 p.m. It was John's request that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Oliver Gospel Mission, 1100 Taylor St., Columbia, SC 29201; or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
