Obituary of Helen Sills Young

Helen Sills Young, age 94, left this earth on Thursday, March 8, 2018 to her permanent home in Heaven at the invitation of her personal Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. She was born in Savannah, Georgia to Randolph and Evelyn Sills on January 7, 1924. She was married to the late Henry W. Young Jr. in June 1947. Helen worked as a Tupperware dealer as a young mom and then worked at the S.C. Forestry Commission for 6 years until she began working at S.C. State Parks, Recreation, and Tourism for 35 years. She was very active at First Baptist Church of Columbia where her parents and husband also attended. She was involved in Sunday School, WMU, and choir. She always had a positive outlook and remained faithful to attending church every Sunday and studying the Bible. She loved the Atlanta Braves, the Gamecocks, and loved to talk about her grandchildren and spend time with them. Surviving are her son Ted Young of Columbia; daughter Pam Phillips (Roy) of Chapin; grandchildren Lauren Phillips of Chapin; Stephen Phillips (Paige) of Lexington; Jonathan Phillips of Greenville, and Kathryn P. Tripp (Aaron) of Edgefield.); great-grandchildren Ashton and Boone of Lexington and Connor and Emma of Edgefield; a sister Shirley Reames of West Columbia; 2 nieces and 1 nephew The family wishes to thank Dr. Marion, nurses Dee and Amanda, and CNAs Sheila and Adrine of Halcyon Hospice care for their compassionate and loving care during her illness, to Dr. Paul Plante for his excellent care and concern, and to the Naylor Sunday School Class for their love and kindness given to her. Family will receive friends from 11 am to 12 pm in Boyce Chapel of First Baptist Church of Columbia with the funeral service following there on Tuesday, March 13.
