Obituary of Ruby Jeffcoat Adkins

Ruby Jeffcoat Adkins, 91, of West Columbia, South Carolina passed away March 8, 2018. She was born on January 20, 1927 to the late Ligon and Curtis Furtick Jeffcoat. Ruby was joined in Holy Matrimony to John Austin Adkins Sr. and to this union four children were born. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, working in her flower garden, and regular gatherings with her family. Ruby retired from the Department of Social Services and then went on to prepare taxes for others. Ruby has provided Christmas for children who otherwise would not have had one. She was the kindest, caring, and most compassionate woman and saw the good in everyone no matter what. Ruby is survived by two daughters, Karen ( Jim) Clark, Deirdre (Russell) Chavis; one daughter-in-law, Vivian Adkins; one son, Rex Adkins; one brother, Charlie Jeffcoat; three granddaughters, Tory (Jason) Kindrick, Angela (Micheal) Smith, Ashley Adkins; four grandsons, John Austin Adkins III, Jarett (Christal) Adkins, Paul Adkins, David (Brooke) Chavis; four great granddaughters, Alyson Adkins, Sarah Adkins, Kailee Smith, Jada Adkins; 3 great grandsons, Steven Cheek, Hayden Jeffcoat and Jacob Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Austin Adkins Sr.; one son, John Austin Adkins Jr.; two brothers, Johnnie Jeffcoat, L.C. Jeffcoat; two sisters, Lurlene Lucas and Marion Arnold. The family will be receiving friends for a visitation on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park following the services.
