Obituary of Daniel Camp

Daniel "Danny" Wade Camp, 61, of Lexington, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 24, 2018, after a courageous battle with renal cancer. He was born August 17, 1956, in Columbia, SC. Danny married his angel on earth, Cindy, on August 16, 1975. From the time their marriage began, they committed selflessly and sacrificially their time and resources to helping those the Lord put in their path, especially numerous immediate and extended family members. He walked in humility - never seeking attention or praise from anyone. God blessed Danny and his wife with a miracle baby, Danielle, who was one of his greatest blessings. Throughout his illness, he praised God for his family and his blessed life. Danny was an avid turkey hunter and angler. God's creation was his second home, and he loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren, in the great outdoors. His grandchildren treasured being with their "Big Daddy," and he was devoted to them. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Robin Crawford; daughter, Cynthia Danielle Camp-Spears (Jason) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Kenley-Grace, Mason, Declan and Evelinn; brothers, Walter David Camp (Debra) of Saluda, SC, Roger Dale Camp of Pelion, SC; sisters, Melanie Kress (Bill) of Commerce, GA, Myra Jane Thorne of West Columbia, SC; 18 nieces and nephews and 36 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: parents, Alma McGrady and Samuel Benjamin Camp; an infant brother, Richard Ray "Dickie" Camp; and nephews, Rome Camp, Todd Thorne and Bucky Kress. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Lexington, 415 Barr Rd, Lexington, SC 29072 with the Rev. Ralph Schneck officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Burial is private. Memorials may be made to SCOA Cares Foundation, 166 Stoneridge Dr., Columbia, SC 29210. A heartfelt thank you from the family to Dr. Phillip Baldwin of South Carolina Oncology Associates and Dr. William Felmly of Palmetto Health USC Orthopedics for the exceptional medical care they provided throughout Danny's illness.
